It's not like we didn't see this one coming... Clay's "airplane incident" is now making headlines on the wires. Well, I guess it goes to show how big Clay is... had this been anyone else's feet, you wouldn't be reading these right now:
A little update from the CB's Okclayhoman -
Ok guys....I was in a meet and greet with him tonight before the concert......Clay told us exactly what happened and he was asleep...he's a tall guy and his foot accidentally touched her armrest...He didnt even hear her talking to him until she began screaming at him, at which point he pulled up his visor and she started swinging... she hit him 3 or 4 times and being the gentleman that he is he did not swing back......He was not hurt......but man was he pissed......one of our other Oklahoma fans was sitting across the aisle from him and was a witness to this woman's personal attack .
There is no more to this story than that and he made fun of it several times in the concert tonight.....so please let him and his people handle it......remember to, just because there was no comment coming tonight that it takes time to prepare a cohesive statement ....I am sure that they are working on something........
Here's a snippet of AP wire story:
Clay Aiken, a finalist on the FOX television program ...
The dispute on a Continental Airlines flight took place between Aiken, who was traveling Saturday morning to a performance at the Brady Theater, and a woman, the Tulsa World reported for Sunday's editions.
Concertgoers who attended the former "American Idol" singer's show said afterward that Aiken joked on-stage about being beaten up by a girl earlier in the day.
SF Gate - nice Clay mentions in this interview with the legendary Neil Sedaka -
Neil Sedaka likes to joke that the Beatles forced him into early retirement when they arrived in America. But the singer-songwriter hit the pop charts four years ago after "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken recorded his single "Solitaire."
Q: What about Clay Aiken, who did one of your songs?
A: I was the guest celebrity judge on "American Idol" in 2003, the year of Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard. Clay did my song "Solitaire" on the show, and Clive Davis, who was watching, insisted he do it as a single. I think it was the second most popular single of that year. He has a beautiful voice. It's probably my most-covered song.
Because of new airline regulations, the FBI had to be called in and in the end everything was resolved and the crazy woman was let go. But where was Roger? Why does he never do his job by getting the truth out to the media? Maybe he spent the night at a "friend's" place or maybe he was too hung over. Whatever his excuse, the tabloids have had a free pass to write pure garbage about Clay for too long.
Clay, honey, get yourself a real publicist. You know the kind... one that answers his phone, that replies to e-mails, contacts the media to get the truth out there? The kind of guy that earns his keep by working FOR his client instead of sabotaging him. Anyone would be better, I could do a better job and I don't have a fancy VP of PR title.
Idle-wandering - how media manipulate the truth behind this story... this is a very compelling read -
Later in the evening, the Tulsa paper had rewritten their version to remove the part about Aiken being asleep, to correspond with the AP story. So now the "news" is on the Comcast home page, MSNBC.com, the late evening news in LA, and who knows where tomorrow. With no mention of the fact that he was asleep.
It seems Clay’s feet are at it again. The AP is reporting there was another incident on a plane, but they didn’t quite get it right. No surprises there. No one ever gets it right if it’s about Clay Aiken. But, hey! They love to talk about him. He’s always big news.
Of course, because the AP story fails to mention that Clay was asleep and the woman assaulted him, all of the news outlets this morning are carrying this story like it was a fight between the two of them. Journalism at its best (worst?) once again.
Amazing just how many media outlets have picked up the Clay Aiken airport incident report and even more amazing that so many have added so much that just didn’t happen to it.
One report claims the pilot took pictures. Well, I’d say if the pilot is taking cell phone pictures of the passengers and passing them around to bloggers, he definitely needs to be relieved of his duties. Maybe he could join the paparazzi.
Well, apparently the big news today seems to be an Associated Press story relating how Clay was involved in disturbance on his flight to Tulsa yesterday. Interesting how the story left out some pertinent facts and is being spun that he is some kind of diva or something. How about an eyewitness account? And contrary to other reports, the woman attacking Clay was not a fan.
It's odd to me that people like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Britney Spears work so hard for publicity, topping each other with outrageous misbehaviors, and Clay, who could care less, can stir up a media frenzy in his sleep.
