NEW YORK -- Clay Aiken, who joins the cast of Monty Python's Spamalot this week, says its humour was initially lost on him.
"The first time I saw it I thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen in my entire life," the American Idol runner-up told Newsweek. "My tour drummer is the Spamalot drummer, and (he) said you've got to see it again."

Manilow concert reviews turn up with some regularity on McMann's blog, seantm.blogspot.com (he's also a Clay Aiken fan and writes about him there, too). But even though he's a journalist, McMann has never interviewed Manilow. It would be, he says, a daunting task.
The most successful, though, was runner-up Clay Aiken. He’s sold more than 6.5 million albums, faring better than winner Ruben Studdard, who has sold only about 3 million. He’s also written a memoir, guest starred on several TV shows and is now appearing on Broadway in “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”

I did not think of Beyonce and company when I titled this blog. Or even Barack Obama, despite Rolling Stone's article wondering if he fit that label. To me, Clay Aiken embodies the name, especially tonight.
Why tonight? Well, Clay begins a 3.5 month starring role in Monty Python's Spamalot this very evening. He often said his career path has taken various turns because his belief is “let go and let God”. Personally, I think God bought Destiny lunch because there are so many things that seem to place him on a path to be right where he is tonight.
There Was A Man -"Clay Aiken on Broadway: This Is The Knight"
Opening night is finally here. After much preparation for the role: singing, dancing, acting, piano, interviews, and doing press, it is finally time for Clay to show the world not only does he belong on Broadway, but that Broadway is lucky to have him. Only the best singers are on Broadway, something Simon Cowell never seemed to wrap around his tiny pea-brain. It not the place for wannabe pop stars who can't make it on American Idol. It's for the elite-- the best singers, and the best actors. The performers have to bring it night after night; they have to engage the audience; they have to give a performance like it is the only one they are giving. There is no retake for that particular audience. There is no doubt in my mind, that Clay Aiken will bring it as he always does.
NYC residents are so lucky...to live in a city that has my pretend boyfriend Clay Aiken's face on their public transportation. Must be Utopia. heee!

This year, as I have the past four Christmases, I think about how my life has changed because of Clay Aiken. I remember going to my first concert in 20 years to see him, then of, course, I had to go again. And again. And again. 39 concerts later, I'm still planning on going to more. I've made so many friends and acquaintances because of Clay Aiken and this incredible fandom that has sprung up out of nowhere. I've discovered message boards and have met so many wonderful people at the concerts and pre and post-concert parties. I've seen some of my friends go to college, graduate, and get married! Others have passed away in the prime of their lives. Some live charmed lives yet others have problems that have made them stronger.
In just four days, UNICEF supporters and fans of Clay Aiken have raised $44,000 toward this goal. In the spirit of the season, please do your part to help raise $100,000 to support recovery for the children and families of Chiapas and Tabasco.

I have no idea if refusing the appearance will hurt his career. “The View” is for older women and that seems to be his key demographic. But maybe staying off television is the right thing to do anyway. He looks more and more like Clay Aiken every day.
And it’s worth noting that neither it nor the Townes Van Zandt comparison (”[maybe] one of Quirk’s lyrics or Fudesco’s riffs will pop into your head, the way a Townes Van Zandt song does”) are qualitative statements, and don’t “put it in the esteemed company” of those records any more than saying Clay Aiken’s resemblance to Zac Efron makes him appealing.

The often-historically minded "American Idol" has twice had Manilow as its special guest, for a theme-night focus, performance and coaching session. The first time, Manilow made a stylistic connection with Clay Aiken that worked out well for both guys, with a lot of cross-pollination of fans. "I'm Barry Manilow . . . this is what Clay Aiken will look like in 30 years," Manilow would later kid in concert.
"He's very focused, but at the same time, he's got a great sense of humor," said Shaun Shankel, a producers of "Broken & Beautiful" who has worked with such artists as Kimberley Locke, Hilary Duff and Clay Aiken.

I'm not too familiar with this song but it's a strong effort from Brian. There's a long instrumental break for Mark Lalama on the organ and I wonder if they're trying to pull another Clay Aiken "Vincent" moment. I just hope they don't show that part when they recap the phone numbers.
