  • All That Is Clay Aiken reflects on ATDW, 1 year later -
When "A Thousand Different Ways" dropped, the critics said that Clay Aiken should not release an albums of covers as his second pop album. It has since gone gold with little radio play and promotion. Not too bad, huh?

One thing I do know is I love "A Thousand Different Ways". I do not think there has been a single day that I have not played this album since it was released. There is one song on this album that I wish that it had been released as a single. Of course my opinion is that it is a "classic".

A lot of you are asking when you will be able to access the official fanclub. Here is your answer:

We anticipate that ClayOnline.com will return with full login and message board capabilities on Monday, September 24th.

Idol Stalker Poll: Clay vs Jordin - "To Love Somebody"

If you remember correctly, CDD let you know earlier this week that Friday would be "Clay Day" at Idol Stalker, a day when they guaranteed that there would be something about Clay in their article. Sure enough, Idol Stalker kept its promise and has a poll with Clay and Jordin both belting out "To Love Somebody" on American Idol. You can run over there and listen to both versions and vote. As of the writing of this article, Clay is ahead of Jordin, 631 to 7.

Be sure and listen to Clay's version again. It will still send chills down you, especially that great long note he holds out!

Clay's Aunt Joan Passes Away

We at Clay's Daily Double would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Clay and his family and the McGhee family in the passing of Joan McGhee Marbrey. Joan, the daughter of Clay's nanny, Amaryllis McGhee, passed away on September 18. Clay has paid tribute, as well as let his fans know of her death, by posting the above picture at the OFC website. The picture immediately comes up when you click to try to go into the site. What a beautiful tribute to his aunt.

We hope that the many wonderful memories the family has of Joan will bring much comfort and many smiles to their faces at this time of grief.

Christmas Concert Format - "all Clay"

According to the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilke-Barre, PA, Clay is set to do a full Christmas show this year, similar to the format of the previous Joyful Noise Tours in 2004 and 2005:

Just wanted to check and see if you got your Clay tickets? We just got an updated rider today with change in the program. Clay will be doing two sets with an intermission, the orchestra will not be doing any opening segment…so it is all Clay….

Thought you would want to know and spread the word to the clay fans…its all Clay….

  • TV Guide - AI6 top 22 contestant lands record deal, talks about Simon Cowell and her desire to "marry Clay Aiken" -
He was nothing but nice to me. Really! I appreciate his honesty. I even made him laugh when I told him I secretly wanted to marry Clay Aiken!
In addition, she says: And I'd really love to meet Christina Aguilera, Stevie Nicks and Clay Aiken.
  • Charlteston.net - Quiana Parler to perform at Charleston, NC's Chazz ("Jazz") Fest -
    Quiana Parlor & Friends

Quiana Parlor's name may not be synonymous with the massive success of "American Idol," however, her audition and subsequently being a Top 49 finalist changed her entire musical career. The Charleston native, locally recognized as one of the original stars of The Serenade Show, spent 2004 on tour as a background singer for Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson and performed on such nationally broadcast shows as "Saturday Night Live," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The View" and "Today" show.
  • Star Telegram - In an article called "Untrue Horoscopes" by John Metz...
Pisces (Feb. 19 -- March 20): Like Clay Aiken, you are the epitome of ... well, I can't really say anything without getting in trouble. I really just wanted to get "Clay Aiken" in these horoscopes so I'd get more hits.
And from his Libra horoscope, here's the question they most certainly did not ask Clay on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader": "Why do people say "nouns," "adjectives" and "verbs" are different parts of speech when they're all nouns?" I'm not sure I care for his Pisces horoscope, but that last one gave me a chuckle.

Tidbits 9/19

You will all remember well that today marks 1 year since the release of Clay's sophomore album, A Thousand Different Ways.

Feel free to comment on this post to tell us how YOU celebrated the album release.

  • 2snaps.tv - Barry Manilow article -
I have no idea if refusing the appearance will hurt his career. “The View” is for older women and that seems to be his key demographic. But maybe staying off television is the right thing to do anyway. He looks more and more like Clay Aiken every day.
  • Knoxville Voice - Clay looks like Zac Efron?
And it’s worth noting that neither it nor the Townes Van Zandt comparison (”[maybe] one of Quirk’s lyrics or Fudesco’s riffs will pop into your head, the way a Townes Van Zandt song does”) are qualitative statements, and don’t “put it in the esteemed company” of those records any more than saying Clay Aiken’s resemblance to Zac Efron makes him appealing.
  • USA Today - article about gossip site TMZ -
TMZ first experimented with audio comments in July 2006 with its news reports about actor and director Mel Gibson's arrest for drunken driving. TMZ refined the technology, then relaunched the service about a month ago with an item — known as a "post" — about American Idol contestant Clay Aiken. The commenting service is free; readers need a laptop or PC with a built-in microphone. Comments are limited to 30 seconds in length.

Remembering Good Morning America...One Year Ago Today

Its hard to believe that its been a year, but one year ago today, September 19, 2006, Clay was on Good Morning America to sing Without You and A Thousand Days. Hundreds of loyal fans showed up for the performance...thousands would love to have been there. The memory of that day lives on, not just in our minds but also on video and in photos, beautiful pictures of Clay and "sung to perfection" songs from ATDW. Thank goodness for modern technology!!

To join in these remembrances, here are some great photos from GMA, as well as YouTube videos of snarky Clay's pre-airtime antics (Clay, smile!!) and performances of Without You and A Thousand Days. You can also download A Thousand Days from Clack Unlimited. And Clay, as always, thanks for the memories!!

SCAM ALERT: Liars, Clay Posers Send E-mail to Clay's Daily Double

We're joining our friend at Chexxxy's Pearls to warn you about a sick group of people pretending to be Clay, or to be Clay's friend in an attempt to derail the Clay nation by tarnishing Clay's image.

In her post on Sunday night, Chexxxy wrote:

While I compose the next installment, consider this. The Imposters are presenting the image of the exact Clay Aiken that the haters have created. Their version is a drunk, smokes like a chimney, is HIV positive, swears like a sailor, cruises the internet sites for one night stands, cheats on his girlfriend, is confused about his sexuality, is bi-polar and on medication for depression and suicidal thoughts. This is exactly what his detractors have wanted the fans to believe, that he isn't the man we know him to be and the stalker would like the fans to know that he is Clay's confidant and that he talks to him on Instant messages, phone calls and texting.
Today, Clay's Daily Double received an email from what appears to be another member of this disgusting organization, urging us to stop publishing details about their scam:
My sister is the innocent victim of a poser. She has been believing this poser for quite a while until two days ago when all hell broke loose. Unfortunately, other people have been pushing her forward as the main culprit, when she is not even that. She is a victim who is heartbroken. She is a young single mother of one young daughter and another on the way. (Early 20's). She found out yesterday that Chexxy was going to post her private information as the "ring leader" when she was a victim! My sister has no one to protect her if her personal information was given out and she fears for the sake of her daughter's safety. She has been stressing for two days, which is not good for a pregnant woman in her second trimester.

I heard tonight that your blog was going to post her information. I beg of you not to. She is an innocent victim who is being wrongly accused. Please look into your heart and reconsider. Sle already has enough on her plate. If you have any further questions, please contact me. Please let me know either way. Have a good night.
Claymates... this post is a heads up and a call for us to band together. Long live the Clay nation!

Clay Spotted At Raleigh Japanese Restaurant

Clay was spotted dining with 4 friends at a Japanese restaurant in Raleigh, it was reported on the message boards:

Clay sighting in Raleigh . . .

DS#2 told me last night that his friend/college roommate (who knows I'm a Clay fan) text messaged him on Sunday night to say that he just saw Clay with two girls and two guys eating at a Japanese restaurant in Raleigh. He said that they were there from about 5:00 to a little after 6:00 and were having a very good time. The friend said that the manager escorted them out when they were leaving and he heard Clay tell the manager that he never goes out anywhere without at least four friends with him.

CBC Interviews Neil Sedaka: Clay Mentions

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation recently interviewed Neil Sedaka about his 50th year in the music industry.

The segment, which aired on CBC Newsworld's The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos in July, included a few seconds from Clay's "Invisible". The host mentioned Neil Sedaka's hit "Solitaire" being covered by Clay.

Clay will be performing at a special concert in New York next month, to honor Sedaka's 50th anniversary in the music industry.

You can watch the full interview along with a short write up at CBC.ca:

Over the last 50 years, Neil Sedaka has had countless hit singles, sold over 25 million records and authored over 1 thousand songs. He is a legendary pioneer of pop and rock music. With hit singles like "Laughter in the Rain", "Stupid Cupid" and "Breaking Up is Hard to Do", his songs are still being remade by the likes of Cher, Sheryl Crow, John Travolta, Clay Aiken, Mandy Moore and many more. Hundreds of artists have made his songs hits including: Elvis Presley, Abba, Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra and many more.

Photos You May Not Have Seen from NCLD Gala

We've found some photos you may not have seen from the National Center for Learning Disability's gala held last April in New York City.

Clay was honored by the center for his dedication and commitment to the Bubel Aiken Foundation.

This year's honorees were, Clay Aiken, Recording Artist & Co-Founder of the Bubel Aiken Foundation, recipient of the NCLD Children's Advocacy Award; Arthur Ryan, Chairman & CEO of Prudential Financial, Inc., recipient of the NCLD Spirit of Achievement Award; and Donald Deshler, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Research on Learning, University of Kansas, recipient of the NCLD Distinguished Education Achievement Award. These individuals were honored for their remarkable efforts on behalf of children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities.

This Friday To Be "Clay Day" At Idol Stalker

For the last week or two, IdolStalker.com has had several polls with Clay and other past American Idol singers singing the same songs, such as Unchained Melody, and then their fans have voted for their favorite. Clay has won each of these polls, and seeing the dedication of Clay fans, Idol Stalker has decided that this coming Friday will be "Clay Day" at their site.

In the article, the author, Jeanne, tells us:

Clay Aiken fans have made their presence known on this site over the past week and it made me realize that some former Idol contestants really do have huge fan bases.

I’ve decided, for now, to make Friday a “Clay Day” because that’s when I’ve put up his Face Offs. No, that doesn’t mean that this site will turn into a Clay Aiken site on Fridays. News and everything else will continue as usual, but it just means that Clay fans are guaranteed to find Clay content on Idol Stalker on that day.
Jeanne also says, "Fans - send your fan art, news, encounter pics or whatever else you want to share to me before the Fan Day," and she is also willing to hear suggestions from the fans.

So Clay fans, have a special piece of art work you'd like to send in? Some news or a picture? Share it on Clay Day at Idol Stalker.

Tidbits 9/17

Tour mentions from tour venues:

  • Morris Auditorium, South Bend, IN:
American Idol favorite CLAY AIKEN will be celebrating the holidays in style at the Morris with “A Clay Aiken Christmas with Symphony.” Multi platinum recording artist CLAY AIKEN emerged from his 2003 American Idol experience with a recording contract, Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly magazine covers, and legions of loyal fans. Those fans voted him the Fan’s Choice winner at the 2003 American Music Awards as well as TV Guide’s Fan’s Favorite Reality Star that same year. His first single, “This is the Night/Bridge Over Troubled Water” won the Billboard Music Award for best selling single of 2003…and that was just the beginning. CLAY then hit the charts with the popular single “Invisible,” off his debut CD “Measure of a Man,” followed that up with his first Christmas CD – “Merry Christmas with Love,” and the book Learning to Sing: Hearing The Music In Your Life and his latest CD – “A Thousand Different Ways.” This is one very special concert you won't want to miss. Join us for a night of holiday classics!
  • Omaha Symphony -
An unlikely pop star, Clay Aiken has remained steadfast in his desire to remain true to the simple values he learned as a child in Raleigh, North Carolina. “I still live in the town where I grew up,” he says. “I like surrounding myself with people I know and love.” It is this authenticity that his millions of fans have responded to.

The singer’s third CD, A Thousand Different Ways, offers 10 cover versions of love songs, as well as four brand-new songs that are destined to become Aiken classics in their own right.

  • Charleston City Paper - Ryan Seacrest kills the Emmy's?
I’m not saying that Ryan Seacrest single-handedly killed The Emmys last night — he obviously had a lot of help. Here’s basically how it went. He came out and tried his standard routine on American Idol, where he looks around and points out celebrities in the audience. The problem, of course, being that he was at the Emmys, so instead of five celebrities (and that includes Clay Aiken), there were hundreds of celebrities (and that includes former Vice President Al Gore). So, Ryan saunters over to the Desperate Housewives section and chats up the ladies.
  • The Republican - Chris Daughtry article ...
Chris Daughtry also is the most successful nonwinner of the vaunted "American Idol" television series that has given the world Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood.

  • CLAMMY AWARDS: Vote for Clay's Daily Double - Best Website ... You can vote as many times as you'd like!
  • Chicago Sun Times -the media still hasn't picked up Clay's message... this tour is not going to happen -
''American Idol'' graduates Kimberley Locke, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard are in talks to embark on a collective concert tour next year. According to Locke, Aiken and Studdard are game. ''Now it's up to our agents and managers to book it,'' she says. Locke says the trek will not be about ''us as opening acts for each other. We'll be using the same band and will be on the stage singing duets and trios throughout the concert.'' The tour, with the working title "Reunited: 5 Years Later," is expected to hit the road next spring.

Here's hoping they fare better than this year's crop of pop tarts. At the halfway point of the 2007 "American Idols Live" tour, ticket turnstiles are standing idle. Nearly half (14) of the shows were below 60 percent of capacity. (Lowest was 38.9 percent in Birmingham, Ala., hometown of 2006 winner Taylor Hicks and 2003 champ Ruben Studdard.)
