Attention Pennsylvania Fans and Beyond

This was posted on the Clayboard by Claysvoice and I thought I might help it reach those that may have not seen it. It involves radio play for the holidays for those in the Pennsylvania area. Get busy ladies!!

ATTN: PENNSYLVANIA FANS!

I've just heard from a friend that WROZ 101 The Rose in Lancaster has started a listener survey for their upcoming holiday programming. Two Clay songs are up for rating .... MARY, DID YOU KNOW ... & SILVER BELLS w/Kim Locke. The are also many versions by other artists on there of songs Clay has recorded. JMO, but it would probably be wise not to give those other artist versions too high of a rating - there's a chance if that version doesn't pass the audience test, they might give Clay's a try.

If you're not yet on their listener survey (& why the holy sweater vest not when OMWH was on there all summer?! ), here's the link to sign up:

This really has more impact to the Program/Music Director than even daily requests do.

Tidbits 3/15

  • The Advocate comments on the new Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul book -
I read about how Clay Aiken helped a young female fan’s body image by appearing to enjoy the company of a plus-size young woman in his hit “Invisible” video. From that moment on he requested that only regular-looking people be in his videos. This had nothing at all to do with making him look less geeky. He had love and inner healing to deliver.
  • New York Magazine - Clay looking to purchase a condo in NYC?
Long Island City: What if the rumors are true and Clay Aiken is moving to the same Arris Lofts that superstar D.J. Danny Tenaglia just bought into? Will scary hard-house remixes of the Spamalot score rattle the building?
    • liQcity -
In curbed’s coverage of the Clay Aiken rumor, there was an interesting line:

…this could be some weird defining moment in the recent history of Long Island City as an emerging development hotspot.
    • Curbed (WARNING: objectionable picture on website) -
Look, we can think of about a thousand reasons why Clay Aiken buying an apartment at the Arris Lofts in Long Island City makes no sense, but the truth of the matter is that, yes, Clay Aiken is currently living in New York and starring in Spamalot and may want to stick around when his run is over

  • All That Is Clay Aiken - radio is a dying format?
It looks like music is now going by the way of ipods, mp3 players and cd players. You can also listen to your favorite music from you computer.

I may change my mind when a certain singer's new CD drops. Until then - I have my CDs, my mp3 player and my computer.

To keep this blog on topic and what it is about - Clay Aiken. :)

How well do you know the birth names of famous people? Take our quiz and find out.
1. What's 'American Idol' finalist Clay Aiken's birth name?
Clayton Aiken Holmes
Clayton Michael Aiken
Clayton Holmes Grissom
  • YouTube - for all you fans of "House", here's a "House" themed montage to the tunes of Clay's "Broken Wings"
  • StarPulse - Aiken to appear on FOX's 5th Grader -
Clay Aiken will be testing his mental mettle against a group of brainy fifth graders. Aiken is slated to appear on the upcoming celebrity version of Fox's hit game show, "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"
  • USA Today Idol Chatter has a wrap up on how Idols have performermed on the radio. Unsurprisingly, Clay comes in dead last with Ruben and Kimberley Locke -
    25. Invisible, Clay Aiken (30.0 million, No. 41)

(Clay's only full-fledged radio hit and songs by Josh, Kellie and Kim Locke join the crowd.)

Finally, number of hits on the chart by artist:

  • And we still have a whole whack of "Idol: The Musical" stories... 3 days after it closed:
    • Charlotte Observer via the Raleigh News & Observer - "Clay Aiken-inspired musical closes"
    • Columbus Dispatch -
Idol: The Musical -- A Musical Based on the Worship of Clay Aiken closed after its Sunday premiere. The off-Broadway show shut its doors "due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics, and a lack of sustainable financial resources," producer Todd Ellis said.
    • New York Daily News -
"Idol: The Musical," based on fans who worship "American Idol" contestant Clay Aiken, has been canceled after just one day because of poor ticket sales.
    • Globe and Mail (major Canadian paper)
    • Anti Music
  • Pegasus News - random mention ... "Is it OK to make fun of Clay Aiken?"

Tidbits 4/16

Clay featured at AOL Television's American Idol" Before They Were Stars (Clay is #4 in the slideshow)

  • From Austin Claymate at The Clayboard - "Clay mention on the radio this morning on 96.7 KISS FM in Austin, TX! They were talking about his trip to Afghanistan and how great and brave he was to go there. And they mentioned that he tested the water for contamination and they even commented on the beard! They also played invisible in the background while they were talking about him."
  • London Free Press - Neil Sedaka celebrating 50 years in the industry - "Sedaka was excited about Clay Aiken, who performed Sedaka's song, Solitaire, on the show."
  • Record Journal - article about Gary Burr, who co-wrote Clay's "Run to Me" - "He has penned hit songs for country stars Randy Travis, LeAnn Rimes and American Idol stars Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken. Burr has also spent the last six years helping out a musician that a few people may have heard of."
  • Herald Star - article about some high school talent show - "Those who paid the $5 for the choir concert heard a wide selection of songs, including Daniel Powter’s, “Bad Day,” and “This is the Night,” by Clay Aiken."
  • Foxes On Idol - remembering AI2's top 7 -
It was Billy Joel night, and Smokey Robinson was the guest judge. This was the night that Kimberley Locke sang “New York State of Mind” and Smokey told her she could “sang.” She sure can! Ruben sang “Just the Way You Are,” and Clay surprised everyone by rockin’ it out on “Tell Her About It.”
  • Dateline Hollywood (satire) - random Clay mention in this American Idol satire (negative)
  • The Transcript - how to make the best first impression - "I tell people they need to have a handshake somewhere in between Clay Aiken and Hulk Hogan."

Post-Gazette Article Argues That Clay and Other Idols Not Given Proper Promotion

An article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (scroll down to read article online) makes a good argument for RCA not giving Clay, as well as Taylor Hicks, "the proper promotion to both radio and the public." This article has many good points included in it, so I am going to post the whole article below for your consideration.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Not all 'Idols' created equal

Although I agree with Scott Mervis about the successful female "Idols" ('Idol' results: Here's who's up or down, March 15), I have to argue the fact that some of the others have not been given the proper promotion to both radio and the public.

Instead of focusing on "Idol" winner Taylor Hicks, RCA decided to hype Daughtry, who did not even place. Look at the size of his venues to see how confident RCA is or NOT.

Then, of course, look at what Clay Aiken was "mandated," his word, to do for his all-important sophomore CD. It seems RCA has lost its compass with this one. Clay, a multi-platinum proven seller, was all prepared with a CD of new music, and Clive Davis nixed it. Why? Clay and Taylor got no payola to the radio, but I know that is a dirty word.

The business itself seems very dirty to me. It released Daughtry's single weeks before his CD was released. It did nothing of the sort and did not back any singles of Taylor or Clay.

Finally, it would be nice to see an article that goes beneath the veneer, if you know what I mean.

Lancaster, PA Radio Station to Play ATD Tonight

If you've just been itching to hear Clay's new single "A Thousand Days" on radio, here's your chance! 101 The Rose WZOZ-FM in Lancaster, PA played ATD two times today - once in the morning and once a few minutes ago. Due to the overwhelming response from the Clay nation, the music director at WZOZ has informed the CB's WizofOzfan that they will play ATD again tonight at 6 PM EST.

I heard from Michael C. Anthony, the Music Director for WROZ. He said Patsy, the afternoon DJ yesterday, emailed him AT HOME to tell him that they got around 30 emails about A Thousand Days yesterday!!!!! Michael is THRILLED, and told me that he will try to respond to everyone when he can. Thanks to all who streamed and/or emailed yesterday!

He played ATD during the noon hour today and announced that it was the most requested song of the day! WROZ has a very good-sized audience here in PA, but even more streaming online (thanks to you all!)

WROZ will play ATD again today (Wednesday) during the 6 pm hour (EST), so let's do it again everyone!!!! I would love to hear Patsy say something FANTASTIC about Clay when she announces his song after 6pm!
