Lisa Presley Mentions Clay on Oprah

From the CB:
Yesterday (3/24) I was at the taping of Oprah's interview with Lisa Marie Presley and her mother. First of all it will be a great show. Oprah spent an entire hour talking with Lisa Marie without stopping to create commercial breaks. During the conversation they discussed music today and how Lisa fits into the current music scene.

Lisa Marie indicated her music does not fit the current mold of female teen singers and hip hop. She stated something to the effect that her music, like CLAY AIKEN'S is unigue and does not fit today's mold.

I don't know if that comment will make it on air, since there will have to be some cutting to fit in commercials. But I know all Clay fans will know he was mentioned.

The show will air the Monday and Tuesday after Easter.

FYI: Many people are now calling the emerging Summer Tour as the "Americana Tour"

Multi-Platinum Recording Artist Clay Aiken Joins Forces With Youth Service America to Present the 'Able To Serve' Awards

NEWSWIRE

To: National Desk

Contact: Christina Wessell, 202-296-2992 ext. 28 or cwessell@ysa.org, Robert Bisi, 202-296-2992 ext. 24 or Rbisi@ysa.org, both of Youth Service America

WASHINGTON, March 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Youth Service America and the Bubel/Aiken Foundation are pleased to announce the Clay Aiken ABLE to SERVE Awards, which will provide 50 grants of up to $2,000 each to youth with disabilities for community service projects on National Youth Service Day, April 15-17, 2005. Youth Service America is partnering with four premiere national organizations that work with youth with disabilities, Best Buddies, Special Olympics, National Service Inclusion Project, and VSA arts, to distribute the grants.

The ABLE to SERVE Awards will provide young people with disabilities the opportunity to work side-by-side with youth without disabilities to serve their communities. Award winners will be eligible for an additional grant of $1,000 for the purpose of continuing the service project beyond National Youth Service Day.

"Service, and the learning that goes with it, fosters citizenship, knowledge, and personal development in everyone, young and old, with disabilities and without," said Clay Aiken, who was appointed National Ambassador for the US Fund for UNICEF in 2004. "Our partnership with Youth Service America will bring awareness to the fact that youth with disabilities are great assets and can serve as volunteers too."

Clay Aiken, whose debut album "Measure of a Man" sold nearly 3 million copies, has long been passionate about working to help youth with disabilities. Before his success on American Idol catapulted him into stardom, Clay studied Special Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He taught and mentored a student with autism named Michael Bubel, and formed a close bond with the Bubel family. In 2003, Clay and Michael's mother Diane Bubel launched the Bubel/Aiken Foundation to create awareness about the diversity of individuals with disabilities and the possibilities inclusion can bring.

National Youth Service Day is coordinated by Youth Service America, in association with the National Youth Leadership Council and in partnership with PARADE Magazine. In addition to thousands of projects led by youth, schools, community and faith- based groups, 50 organizations across the country serve as Lead Agencies for National Youth Service Day. The Lead Agencies are local, regional, or statewide liaisons for National Youth Service Day, promoting projects and celebrations, coordinating volunteer recruitment, local media outreach, and hands-on participation by elected officials.

Financial support for National Youth Service Day is provided by State Farm Companies Foundation, General Motors Foundation, the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, DisneyHand, U.S. Department of Justice, Verizon, AT&T, Motorola, Bridgestone, and the Janus Foundation. Youth Service America is joined by a consortium that includes 115 of the nations' largest nonprofit and youth development organizations, including: March of Dimes, U.S. Department of Justice YMCA, Camp Fire USA, National Education Association (NEA), the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and many more.

National Youth Service Day Tool Kits, Service-Learning Curriculum Guides, posters, grants, and more are available for youth, parents, and teachers at the Youth Service America website at: http://www.YSA.org/nysd. Participating in this event will teach youth how to create a financial budget, plan an event, design materials, fundraise, and take leadership roles.

The mission of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation aims to create awareness about the diversity of individuals with disabilities and the possibilities inclusion can bring. Through collaborations with the disability, education, entertainment, and media communities, the Foundation will recognize those whose commitment to breaking the stereotypes attendant to the developmentally disabled has broken barriers and extended the boundaries of the human experience for all. For more information, visit: http://www.thebubelaikenfoundation.org.

Youth Service America is a national nonprofit resource center that partners with thousands of other organizations committed to strengthening the youth service movement. Youth Service America's programs and services help to strengthen the effectiveness, sustainability, and scale of the youth service and service-learning fields on a local, national, and global level. In addition to National Youth Service Day and Global Youth Service Day, which take place concurrently each April, YSA also hosts SERVEnet (http://www.SERVEnet.org), providing the largest database of volunteer opportunities in America. Who'll be the next American Idol? To be honest, says Clay Aiken, "I haven't paid much attention to the show this year." Aiken, 26, has been focusing on his new role as UNICEF ambassador. Joining the organization in November, Aiken made his first field mission in March to Indonesia and Malayisa, where he saw tsunami relief efforts and toured camps for displaced survivors. At one stop, he sang with kids in their native Bahasa Indonesia ("a little difficult", he says); at another he toured a makeshift school. "I thought to myself, "I've seen tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes - throw them all together and maybe I could understand the scope of this thing," says Aiken. "But when you finally get on the ground, there's no way to describe it."

Kelly Clarkson defends Clay's Career

Kelly did a call-in radio interview this morning with WNCI, Columbus Ohio. I was listening on my way to work. Apparently she's in London doing promo work for her album.

The DJ who did the interview congratulated Kelly on all her success and said something like, "Kelly, your career has really taken off and you're on the top of the world, whereas Clay's career has been kind of 'meh' and Ruben's career has been kind of 'meh'." Kelly thanked him but also went out of her way to stick up for Aiken, saying something like, "Clay's career may be kind of meh in terms of radioplay, but in terms of record sales and having a strong fanbase, he's doing great." She also pointed out that Clay's first single outsold her first single.

Rumored Release Date

AUGUST 3
From Dazaccent

This morning I asked my friend that manages an FYE store when they would know if a new CD is going to be released. He said usually about 5 to 6 months in advance.

He looked in the store computer and it said CLAY AIKEN PRESALE AUGUST 3.

I asked him if anyone could walk in his store and get that info and he said yes. Maybe someone else can call their local record stores and ask this question. I tried calling Sam Goody but did not get an answer.

Wal Mart prepping for New Clay CD

An interesting post from Missy222:

A confirmation that the business world has been informed and is now ready for the release of Clay's NEW C.D.! Wal-Mart has just moved Measure of a Man from the "side counter" to the "budget cube." Meaning they have been contacted about his NEW C.D. coming out and made room for it. They only do this when the artist has a NEW C.D. coming out. The price has dropped from it's old $13.88 to the new everyday budget cube price of $9.72. MOAM is now considered old, LOL! They also use this as a marketing tool to help sell the older C.D. When newer fans buy the NEW C.D. and like it, they go back and buy the older one too. It is very visible on the "budget cube" and usually generates good sales. If a C.D. doesn't continue to keep up sales then it's moved out completely and looses it's shelf spot. Move over MOAM, #2 is coming! Now I'm real excited! There are no dates as to when this will happen, I've asked and will keep asking!

Clay's Brother deployed

Confirmation from family Friend Frances Wilson:

Most of you know that Brett is being deployed on Thursday. He knew that he would
eventually be deployed, but did not realize it would be so soon. He spent the
weekend at home with family and friends, but is back on base tonight. Please
keep him, Faye and Clayton in your prayers. Hopefully he will be home before the
end of the year. If you would like to send letters to him and to other soldiers
who may not be receiving very much mail, please send them to my address and I'll
be giving them to Faye to send to him.

Many thanks to you,
Frances Wilson
