Jimmy Kimmel Mentions "The Claymates"

Claymates were mentioned on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, reports the CB's Sue4AllYouDo. A video cap is available for download at ClackUnlimited.

I'm watching Jimmy Kimmel and he just mentioned "The Claymates" !!!!! Such a sweetie !!! Anne Heche is on and she was referring to her fans as "Hechemates" which prompted Jimmy to ask "Is that like the Claymates??" He then went into this description of adoring fans of Clay Aiken....he said we are loving and caring, but don't cross us.....or something like that.....it was funny and cute and it got cheers from the audience, too!!!!! Just had to let you know, I thought it was adorable !!!!!! Thanks, Jimmy !!!!!!!

Looking Back - Time Magazine, October 2003 - "Building a Better Pop Star"

This time four years ago Clay's first CD, Measure of a Man, was released. Fans everywhere were ordering and purchasing the CD. It ended up going triple platinum, showing people everywhere that Clay Aiken would definitely be around for a while. And, of course, he has.

About that time, an article came out in Time Magazine called Building a Better Pop Star, by Josh Tyrangiel. This is a great article which tells about much of what happened before the release of Measure of a Man. You'll be glad you stopped and read the whole article. Here are a few excerpts to whet your appetite:

Aiken, who came in second on the most recent installment of American Idol, is not only not a rocker, but, as he says in his aggressively self-deprecating way, "I'm not an artist. I'm just a guy who was on a reality show—and I didn't even win!" Humility aside, Aiken, 24, doesn't mind being doubted because he believes in his bones that his detractors are wrong. "There are many people at the record label who are afraid of me," he says. "They don't understand the reasons that someone as uncool as me is here. In a way—and this is a horrible word to say, and once I say it you're going to print it—it's a revolution."
This is how the term "vanilla revolution" came about, and as the article goes on to say:
(Richard) Sanders says he understands that some of his employees are "skeptical about the selection process and skeptical about selling a pop artist with no credibility." But, he adds, "I've told everyone they need to look at it this way: Americans buy more vanilla ice cream than any other flavor. Yes, they like their Rocky Road and Cherry Garcia, but ultimately America wants to consume vanilla. So we're going to sell the best vanilla. Given the problems we're facing as an industry, we cannot afford to be judgmental."
Many of you also remember that Clay had many disagreements with Clive Davis about the album he wanted to put out, from the name of the album to the type of music he would sing. This article includes what went on with this. Clay won out in the end, refusing to give in and change his convictions.

In addition to not giving in on his CD, Clay's original This Is The Night video was scrapped because, as Clay said,
They had me in this tight little vintage T shirt and jeans and a leather jacket," says Aiken. "And (Rolston) had me sing the song in one scene with this angst attitude—popping my neck and mean looks on my face ... It's trying to make me somebody I'm not. I'm not mean, and this is something the label just doesn't get.
As the article says near the end, "It is telling that in just five months with RCA, Aiken has won most of his battles." The CD had the type of songs that Clay wanted and the name he chose and the video was scrapped.

Clay showed throughout this whole process of putting out this CD just what "the measure of a man" is. And aren't we glad.

Tyra Banks Dines With Clay: Video Clip

A new video clip is up on YouTube of Tyra Banks mentioning Clay during the Tyra Banks Show. As you will have recalled, we reported last month that Clay dined with Tyra in New York.

FlippinBirds.com raises a good point we should ponder:
Can anyone think of any reason this would not have been in the media? Surely, out of two times, someone would have seen them. Surely someone with a cellphone camera or at least one photographer got a picture of this. I did see one small mention of one of the lunches somewhere, but it didn’t travel anywhere. Do you think the world simply doesn’t want to hear about Clay Aiken…gasp…dining with a woman?

Tidbits 10/13

  • Hattiesburg American - not a very good mention in this article about FOX's new show "Next Great American Band":
The brains behind "American Idol" have come up with something we think will be just as entertaining and will produce far more satisfying results.

"The Next Great American Band" will debut on Friday on Fox and appears to mirror the "American Idol" format, with one key difference.

We're sure there will be divas, drama kings and queens and hacks.

However, we're also sure the show will more than likely produce people who can do more than, say, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard or William Hung.

Clay Blogged!!....And Then Posted in The OFC Spamalot Thread!!!

Clay made up for any lost time on the OFC today. First he blogged, and then he headed over to the Spamalot thread and left a post...Post #462 to be exact.

Though we can't mention exactly what Clay said, we will say that he encouraged all who can to come to Ruben's concert in Raleigh at the North Carolina State Fair. All those close to Raleigh, head over there because you never know...if a big crowd shows up, Clay could have some fun news for us some time soon!!

Clay's next stop, over at the Spamalot thread, didn't say one way or the other whether he would really be in the show. Guess we'll have to wait to hear from him later on this.

Clay Attends "Man of LaMancha" at the North Carolina Theatre

According to Raleighlady at Clayversity, Clay attended the North Carolina Theatre's production of "Man of LaMancha" last night in Raleigh. She says:

We went to the NC Theatre's production of Man of LaMancha. There were five people in our group - 3 from my office and 2 from a bank (they were hosting us). At intermission, one girl from our office and the guy from the bank decided to go down to the Backer's Club for drinks and asked if we wanted to go. We decided to just stay in our seats. So just before the second act began, they came back, sat down and the girl from our office very casually said, "Clay Aiken was down there." I was like, "WHAAAAAAAAAT? WHY.DIDN'T.YOU.COME.GET.ME????" She said, "Are you a fan?" And I said, "Good Lord YES!" She said she didn't know (she's new in the office and I guess hadn't heard about the crazy lady). She said that he was mingling with everyone and that he was much taller and bigger than she had any idea and that his voice was very distinctive and could be heard over everyone else. Not that it was loud but that it was so distinctive. She actually had stars in her eyes. I think another one fell. Funny how people who haven't seen him since AI are just blown away when they see him now.

So then the second act started and then afterwards we were separated so I didn't get to ask who he was with, what he was wearing or what his hair looked like. And she's out of the office tomorrow so it will be Monday before I get any more details. I could just KICK myself because I'm not a drinker.

Oh and Clay's listed in the program as a donor to the NC Theatre in the $5,000-$10,000 Director level.
Thanks to Raleighlady for this information!

Screen Caps and Video Now Available For "5th Grader" Promo

If you watched "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" on Thursday night, you were one of the lucky ones who got to see the first promo ad for the celebrity specials. Included in that promo was Clay! As he walked in, he was introduced as "Singing Sensation Clay Aiken", and he was shown high-fiving the 5th grade students. A small bit was shown of him actually playing the game, and he says, "I'm gonna be some kind of mad at myself!"

Well, we now have both screen caps and a video from Clack Unlimited for you to see of this promo.

Be on the lookout each week. There may be more promos at the end of each show, which comes on every Thursday night at 8 eastern/7 central.

NOTE: If you look in the background of the picture where Clay is high-fiving the kids, you can see part of the picture of Clay as an elementary school student up on the screen!!

Clay and AI2 Rewind -- Looking at Pictures From Four Years Ago - 3rd In Series

This week on AI2 Rewind we will FINALLY get to see Clay's tryout. Now, to someone like me who did not get to see it during the original AI2, this is big! Of course, I've seen it played time and time again, but seeing it within the whole Atlanta tryout show will make it seem more real to me. I'm excited, as I know most of you are.

We've been looking at "behind the scenes" pictures of Clay during American Idol 2. We don't get to see these very often. We usually see the photos of him singing on stage. So instead I thought it would be fun to go behind the scenes with Clay during these first few AI2 Rewind shows. Here are the next few pictures for your enjoyment:

Simon and Randy said he had a great voice...but he didn't look like a pop star. He proved them wrong on that second point!!

Clay is excited because...he's going to Hollywood!!

Now what was that you were saying, Simon, about him not looking like a pop star?

Clay Aiken Billboard Spotted in Las Vegas

A huge picture with a picture of Clay was spotted in Las Vegas recently. The billboard promotes the Holiday Celebrations on Ice, a TV Christmas special which will be taped in Orleans, NV for NBC on November 6. Clay is scheduled to appear as the exclusive musical guest.

Tidbits 10/12

  • Clay responded on the OFC message board today about the rumor he is to star on the Broadway play Spamalot. While he didn't explicitly say he would not be in it, he did call it "crazy speculation".
  • Variety music critic on who he will review -
At this point, I don't have to review acts for which I have no affinity -- and that goes across a rather broad spectrum. I will review Barry Manilow, but not Billy Joel; Metallica would get a yes, Axl Rose or Motley Crue a no; certainly Kelly Clarkson, but no to Clay Aiken. The no's get assigned to another reviewer.
  • Raleigh News & Observer - Clay Aiken a fan of Jenna Bush -
Jenna has a fan in Clay

Clay Aiken was spotted at a Jenna Bush book signing.

According to a piece in The New Yorker, the former "American Idol" singer and current UNICEF ambassador "was hiding in a corner" at a launch party for Bush's book, "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope."

He was impressed with the book, which tells the story of an HIV-infected teenager in Latin America.

"I read it on the plane to Afghanistan," he said of the book. "I was quite impressed. I remember thinking she must have had a ghostwriter, but she didn't. She did it herself."
  • TV Envy - AI producers looking for "Next Great American Band" -
It’s hard to trust reality in a world where everything is scripted on TV, and harder still to trust when voting malfunctions (Clay Aiken) have raised questions and concerns about the viability of Idol in the past.
  • MTV.ca - October 14 in music history mentions 2003 MOAM release -
In 2003...American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken released his debut album, Measure of a Man.
  • ESPN - random Clay mention in football article -
David Greene, Patriots Practice Squad QB: He's playing a poor man's Tony Romo in practice this week. Maybe for realism he should also date a poor man's Carrie Underwood: Clay Aiken
  • Christmas tour mentions:
CDD Blogwatch
  • Something That Really Happened - "rewinding" back to Clay's Atlanta AI2 audition
This week American Idol Rewind will be featuring the Atlanta Auditions which is where Clay auditioned. Hopefully they will show some previously unseen footage, but if not, they will most surely have a little interview.

The Bubel Aiken Fundraisers - Part 7: WRAPPING FOR INCLUSION

Today in CDD's series on Bubel Aiken Foundation Approved Fundraisers, we want to talk about a very important one...Wrapping For Inclusion. Wrapping For Inclusion (WFI) is a nationwide awareness and fundraiser campaign through The Bubel/Aiken Foundation. Every holiday season, from the end of November through Christmas, volunteers wrap gifts at stores all over the country to help raise awareness and funds for BAF, spread holiday cheer, and have fun! And trust me when I say, we do have fun!! I know because this will be my third year to take part in this great fundraiser.

The Bubel Aiken Foundation home page tells us that they want to raise $100,000 this year through Wrapping For Inclusion. Of course, the more volunteers and the more wrapping sites that are set up, the better the chances are of us achieving this goal.

There are many ways you can volunteer with the WFI program. The BAF's Wrapping For Inclusion page has information about volunteering for this fundraiser. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • State Coordinator – Recruit and organize volunteers in the various cities in their state. Will be available to answer questions and troubleshoot issues from the city team leaders in their state.
  • City Team Leader (CTL) – Contact local shopping malls and merchants to arrange dates and times for wrapping gifts. Schedule volunteers wrappers. Collect money and forward to the Foundation’s mailing address. Communicate with State Coordinator.
  • Wrappers – Wrap presents across the nation, while creating awareness about inclusion.

More information about each of the positions can be found at the BAF's Wrapping For Inclusion page. I can tell you this, however...being a State Coordinator or a City Team Leader is a lot easier than you might think it is. I am a State Coordinator (Texas), and I was scared to death to do this the first year, thinking it was much too hard for me to handle. Not so. And if I can do it, anyone can. I've met lots of Clay fans and made new friends. And it is very fulfilling to know you are doing something so worthwhile and meaningful to help others.

If you would like to volunteer, please send your contact info to wrappingforinclusion@bubelaiken.org. You can also find more information about the various cities and states that already will be wrapping at stores around the country at The Clayboard's WFI thread.

Come join those of us who have already found out how to put "fun" into "'fun'draiser" by taking part in Wrapping For Inclusion!!

Christmas In The Heartland Tour 2007: Cleveland, OH Date Added For Dec. 17

According to the CB's All4Luv, Clay will be returning to Cleveland on December 17 at the Playhouse Square Center. It will be Clay's first Christmas concert in the Cleveland area in over almost 3 years.

At this time I am THRILLED to "leak" the information that Clay will bring his "Christmas in the Heartland" show to the State Theatre at Playhouse Square on Dec. 17!!! It has been 3 years since Clay came to this area for the holidays...doing a book signing and concert on Dec. 21, 2004!!!

After many emails and the talents of a guardian angel named Charisse, the offer was tendered and accepted last week!!! It is VERY important that people DO NOT call the venue for ticket info at this time...it is NOT available. It would be best to direct all questions to Charisse (cnikel@aol.com) or PM me. Charisse will be in charge of the group sale, with an option for a dinner/ticket package included. The public announcement will be on or around Oct. 21, so no other ticket info will be available before that date. The State Theatre is a beautifully restored venue, part of a four-theatre complex. There is an attached parking garage with a heated walkway and the restaurant is also attached to the complex. A Wyndham hotel is only 5 min away and room discounts may be available. So...dry your tears Ohioans and REJOICE!!! Let's sell out this show and give back the LOVE!! PS Fans from other states and countries are encouraged to attend!!! NOTE!!! Please send all ticket hold requests and group sales concerns to Charisse (cnikel@aol.com) Thanx!!!

Tidbits 10/11

  • Dallas Morning News - An article entitled, We can learn a lot from other cultures, written by Layo Obamehinti, says:
And Jenna Bush isn't the only one who's working with UNICEF. We have seen a rise of celebrities like Alicia Keys, Alyssa Milano, Katie Couric and Clay Aiken; organizations, individuals; and churches making impacts to help and support people in third-world countries.
  • According to Debya at The Clayboard, Clay's MySpace has been updated. She says:
Today, new comments started appearing and his Christmas tour schedule has been added! The format for the comments has changed a bit.
  • South Carolina's The State - In an article about Chris Daughtry, it says:
Davis, head of RCA Records, has had huge success in signing other “Idol” contestants, including Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Fantasia Barrino.
  • Christmas tour mentions:

  • Carolina On My Mind takes a look back at 2003 - the year of Clay Aiken -
The third segment of American Idol 2 Rewind featuring the Atlanta Auditions doesn't air until this weekend, but reminiscing about the first time Clay Aiken sang for the show's panel of judges has been in high gear on message boards all week.

Clay Attends Fundraiser at N.C. Theatre

Clay attended a fundraiser for the N.C. Theatre Monday night in Raleigh, according to cesperry at the Clackhouse. Quiana Parler was a featured performer at the event.

I got an email from a friend of mine in Raleigh who met Clay last night. She went to an event at NC Theater. It was a fund raiser called Dinner on Stage.

Quiana was there performing. She sang three songs and brought the house down. Clay introduced her. He talked about how he met her during the AI auditions. My friend sent me a VERY blurry picture. She told Clay she has a friend near Fayetteville who will just die when she sees a picture of her with him. He said "Well we don't want her to DIE!!" He's such a sweety. He doesn't want me to die. She isn't really a fan of his. I'm glad she got to meet him. I don't know what she expected, but she said he was just a sweet southern kid.

He didn't seem at all like some big celebrity who you couldn't get close to. She said he was very nice. She said he stayed and mingled after the event and seemed to have a nice time.

Tidbits 10/10

  • Forbes presents "The Gatekeepers" - Clive Davis:
    Chairman BMG North America

What he can do for you: Davis can make or break a musician's career. He discovered and/or guided careers for such stars as Bruce Springsteen, Barry Manilow, Whitney Houston, Patti Smith and Carlos Santana. Davis also put his platinum touch on albums made by American Idol talents like Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken.
  • EURweb - Clay mention in article about Kimberley Locke -
Locke first garnered widespread attention as one of the top three finalists on "American Idol's" second season(alongside Ruben Stoddard and Clay Aiken) and has since racked up five Top 10 Billboard AC hits.
  • Christmas tour mentions:
CDD Blogwatch
  • Taking A Moment's Jemock on the rumor of Clay starring on Broadway's "Spamalot" ...
On June 23, 2006, I blogged this picture.

You see what that is? You do, don’t you. Isn’t it almost SPOOKY?

It’s a spam pantry. Which translates to a LOT OF SPAM. Which also means SPAMALOT.
  • Fresh Bread Weblog is featuring Clay once again today ... thanks for the heads up from CDD visitor Debbie and Chexxy's Pearls.
    Clay Aiken - Excellent Example

Bible Search Sanctuary Church Web Site

George Bernard Shaw said, "A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."

As one who professes faith in Jesus Christ, I am committed to encouraging God's children to go about doing good and healing all those who are oppressed --- just like the One whom they claim to be the focus of their faith. Many stay in their comfort zones with nothing more than intellectual beliefs...and claim to be people of faith. Many are afraid to make mistakes...so...(their claim to fame is being the fastest draw in the West with their T.V. remote.

Monday, I featured Clay Aiken on my "Fresh Bread" blog. Today, I bring him into focus one more time. Not because he is a product of my "hero worship." Only Jesus fills that bill for me. However, I discovered on Monday that Clay has even more fans that I realized. He also has more harsh detractors.

So, today...I give honor where honor is due to one I consider a brother in Christ. I believe Clay is actively pursuing the passion of his heart and consciously demonstrating his faith...to bring healing to special needs children. Something he began BEFORE he became famous.

Halloween: Get Your Cl'umpkin Carving Patterns!

Many of you may have recalled those Clay Aiken pumpkin carvings we posted around this time last year. Well, they're back just in time for Halloween 2007!

The Clayboard and Clay Pic City have many Clay Aiken pumpkin carving patterns you can print out and use. Here is a taste of what's available:

Tidbits 10/9

  • Disney Adventures Magazine - Per LVClayCDParty at The Clayboard (who had to pry this out of her daughter's hands for us to see!) Clay is on the November calendar for his birthday. It says:
Will he sing Happy Birthday? American Idol Clay Aiken is 29.One more year till the Big 3-0!!
  • National Post (Canada) - mention of Clay at Jenna Bush's book launch in New York -
Clay Aiken, the “American Idol” star, and now a UNICEF ambassador, was hiding in a corner. “I read it on the plane to Afghanistan,” he said of the book. “I was quite impressed. I remember thinking she must have had a ghostwriter, but she didn’t. She did it herself.”
  • The State - article about the South Carolina State Fair ... they tried to get Ruben and Clay to perform together -
Both Daughtry and Ruben Studdard are appearing at the grandstand. What’s the deal with the “American Idol” connection?

As a matter of fact, we tried to get Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard together, but Clay turned us down. I don’t know why.
  • Big Time Listings - According to this site, "Singer Clay Aiken has sold his condominium unit in Charlotte, N.C. for the modest amount of $71,000."
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report on Aiken’s sale of his 1,096-square-foot condo unit in Charlotte, which he had owned since purchasing it at age 21 in 2000. Public records show that Aiken paid $67,500 in May 2000 for the unit, which is at 9509 University Terrace Drive in Charlotte.

Earlier this year, Aiken sold the unit to a married couple from just outside New York City. Records show that on April 30, the unit sold for $71,000. The sale closed on May 1, according to public records.

The Bubel Aiken Fundraisers - 3 A Day To Remember - Part 6

In our ever-growing wonderful list of Bubel Aiken Fundraisers that we have been reporting on, we here at CDD are about to add three more to that list. As I report on these fundraisers, I find it amazing how many people are working so hard to help BAF achieve their dream of having 100 camps come the summer of 2008. I also find it equally amazing at how many people are willing to buy from these fundraisers, many times making sacrifices to do so. Its a great feeling to see so many fans working together.

If you can't afford to purchase something from a fundraiser, remember that there are other ways to help. Spreading the news about them, as we are doing here at CDD, is so important. If you spread the news, even though you can't purchase an item, maybe a few people who hear about it from you will decide to buy something. The ripple affect its called.

And I can't emphasize enough the importance of encouraging those who are behind these fundraisers. It can get very discouraging at times when you feel as though no one wants your item or everyone has forgotten you. Cheer on those who are fundraising. I know from experience just how much that means!

Now, let's look at 3 more fundraisers:
