Clay An "Acrobat"? New Amazon CD Listing?

Colour us clueless - We wonder if Amazon.com made a major blunder, or whether this is actually a new CD from Clay. This morning, there is a new CD listing for Clay, titled "The Acrobat". I can't imagine Clay releasing a CD called "The Acrobats" though, unless it's something related to the summer Olympics.

Amazing Promo for OMWH at Gupta Media

An amazing promotional ad for On My Way Here is now up at Gupta Media. Gupta Media says about itself on its home page:

Gupta Media is an online marketing firm that conceives, develops and implements large scale online marketing programs. Our team will help your team find an enthusiastic and interested audience and help you achieve your marketing goals.

We count many of the world's largest entertainment companies as our clients.
And they have succeeded in both their goals. They found an enthusiastic and interested audience via Clay's fans, and hopefully others who take a look. And the marketing of OMWH is awesome!

You'll find several things at page:

  • A huge picture of the CD, On My Way Here, as the background
  • A video of Clay talking about the making of OMWH
  • A link to both Walmart and Amazon.com where you can purchase the CD
  • A Clay Aiken "Word Jumbler" game where you can "guess the song title"
  • A place to click and listen to On My Way Here - IMO, it has the best sound of any of the places that have the video online...very crisp and clear
All this on one page. Oh, and the song and video play continuously until you stop them.

Amazon Presents Clay's "List of Music You Should Hear"

Amazon.com is sponsoring a page where Clay lists "music you should hear". Some of the tracks Clay mentioned by name include:

  • "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman from the album, This Moment - “I've been a fan of his as long as I can remember. It's great that he's getting airplay on mainstream radio with this song.”
  • "Fall" by Kimberly Locke from the album, Based On A True Story - “We did American Idol together and I think she is just awesome all around.”
  • "Everything" by Michael Buble from the album, Call Me Irresponsible – “A wonderful singer, just a classic.”
  • "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles from the album, Little Voice - “That's one of those great catchy songs that you just seem to hear everywhere and can't get out of your head.”
  • "Because of You" by Reba McEntire & Kelly Clarkson from the album, Reba Duets – “What's not to like? Two powerhouses together on a great song."
The page also has a short bio about Clay:
When Clay began the search for songs to record for Aiken’s first album of original material since his 2003 chart-topping debut, Measure Of A Man, he fell in love with a song written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan “Alias” Tedder called “On My Way Here.” The message of the lyrics — how the lessons we learn while growing up shape us into who we become as adults — struck such a deep chord with Aiken that it wound up inspiring the theme (and title) of his new collection, On My Way Here

Tidbits 3/30

  • About.com - Clay Aiken ready to release new album -
With the upcoming album On My Way Here, due in stores May 6, 2008, Clay Aiken fans will get what they've been looking for a long time, an album of original material. His last album, A Thousand Different Ways, disappointed many fans due to the fact it was loaded with covers of popular love songs. The albums sales were lackluster, and, with the assistance of producer Mark "Kipper" Eldridge, Aiken has decided to head in a different direction this time out.

On his official web site, Clay Aiken discusses how a song from OneRepublic's leader Ryan Tedder set the tone for his new album. The song deals with the shaping of our adult lives by lessons we learn growing up. "“I thought if we could find songs along those lines, that deal with my life over the past five years and what I’ve learned from my experiences, it would be a great concept for an album." Check out the link below at AOL Music where Clay discusses working with his producer.
  • Amazon.com - The listing of tracks for On My Way Here are now up at amazon.com. No snippets yet.

  • For those who are inclined to vote, here are a few polls for you to vote in:

    • Votenumber1.com - Vote here for your favorite past American Idol. The top four vote-getters are now up at their site. Here are the poll results as of Sunday afternoon:

      Chris Daughtry - 27.69%
      Clay Aiken - 25.11%
      Carry Underwood - 24.07%
      Kelly Clarkston - 23.13%

Note that though Clay is in 2nd place, behind Chris by just over 2%, he is listed as #4 on the voting list. You can vote once per day per computer. Only about 4.5% separates all 4 idols.

    • American Idol Music.com - "Whose your fav?" asks this poll at American Idol Music. Note that you have to scroll down inside the poll box to the last idol, who is Clay. He does not show on the screen until you poll down. Right now he has a huge lead with about 67% of the vote. Still a little extra cushion doesn't hurt, so get those votes in!
  • Lycos 50 - Don't forget to search for Clay at Lycos 50. Clay dropped from #3 to #6 this past week. Let's keep searching and move him back up!
  • Louisville Courier Journal - not really sure where this comes from ... but, "Will someone please finish one of these Joplin movies before rumors start flying that Clay Aiken and/or Bucky Covington will be playing the troubled legend?"
CDD Blogwatch
  • The ConCLAYve asks why it took 5 whole years for RCA to get a new original album out from Clay -
Clay Aiken is releasing a highly anticipated album of original material on May 6th. The album called “On My Way Here” is produced by Grammy award winner, Kipper who is best known for his work with Sting and Chris Botti. The core fandom and likely even the casual fans who first met Clay on American Idol five years ago have been waiting for an album like this for a long time. It is an album that reflects Clay and his journey. It is an album where he had more control over song choice and sound. So, why did it take so long to get this album? Well, to understand that, first let me tell you a story.

New CD Listed at Best Buy, Amazon.ca

May 6 is solidifying as the release date for Clay's new album, with new listings up at Best Buy and Amazon.ca. Both retailers are listing the album as "TBA".

Amazon.ca lists the CD as an import, which also happened when ATDW, MCWL and MOAM were released. However, there is almost no doubt that Sony BMG Canada will issue the CD as a regular domestic release for our Claynadian fans.

Over at Amazon.com, the CD has slipped to #3 on the music bestsellers list. Let's keep those orders coming and bring it back to #1!

Clay's Chicken Soup Story Mentioned at American Idol Online

Most of us have heard about the new Chicken Soup For The American Idol Soul. But, and maybe I'm just behind the times here, did you know that Clay wrote a story for the book? AmericanIdol.com, in an article dated November 5 by Marnie, tells us about Clay's story concerning a woman who was inspired by the Invisible video. Clay also talked about this in his book, Learning To Sing, Hearing the Music in Your Life. According to Clay,

"I've always tried to remember that people are looking at what I say and do to find out what's valuable and important to me, and I've always tried to set the right example. But that day I realized that I can't know all the ways my actions may impact someone. I couldn't have imagined that video would have affected anyone in any kind of positive way, but, lo and behold, it had."
You can buy Chicken Soup For The American Idol Soul at your local bookstore or at www.amazon.com. And if you buy it at amazon.com, be sure to read the customer reviews. Everyone who left a review loved the book, even those who were skeptical. Sounds like a great item to include on your Christmas list to Santa!

With the holiday season around the corner, this may just be a release of the old 2004 DVD... but, as always, stay tuned to CDD for updates.

Clay Cuts His Hair?

This new and recent photo of Clay arriving at LAX in Los Angeles seems to suggest that Clay has finally cut his hair to a more normal level.

He arrived carrying a copy of a novel called "The Places In Between" by Rory Stewart. Anyone want to be how long before it goes #1 on Amazon?

This book is similar to "The Kite Runner"... Here's some more information from the Amazon listing:

We never really find out why Stewart decided to walk across Afghanistan only a few months after the Taliban were deposed, but what emerges from the last leg of his two-year journey across Asia is a lesson in good travel writing. By turns harrowing and meditative, Stewart's trek through Afghanistan in the footsteps of the 15th-century emperor Babur is edifying at every step, grounded by his knowledge of local history, politics and dialects. His prose is lean and unsentimental: whether pushing through chest-high snow in the mountains of Hazarajat or through villages still under de facto Taliban control, his descriptions offer a cool assessment of a landscape and a people eviscerated by war, forgotten by time and isolated by geography. The well-oiled apparatus of his writing mimics a dispassionate camera shutter in its precision. But if we are to accompany someone on such a highly personal quest, we want to know who that person is. Unfortunately, Stewart shares little emotional background; the writer's identity is discerned best by inference. Sometimes we get the sense he cares more for preserving history than for the people who live in it (and for whom historical knowledge would be luxury). But remembering Geraldo Rivera's gunslinging escapades, perhaps we could use less sap and more clarity about this troubled and fascinating country.(May)
