Tidbits 3/23

Happy Easter!
  • Autism: The Musical - I found this television special in my local TV listing. It will be on HBO on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. Central Standard Time (check your listings). It was shown apparently in 2007, but if you didn't see it, you might want to tune in. Here is what was written about the special:
We dare you not to stand up and cheer this 2007 film, which, despite its title, isn't a musical but a documentary about a group of youngsters with autism who put on such a production. Since autism is characterized by problems with social interaction and communication, the teamwork required of a stage show is a real challenge, but the kids -- including one whose father baby boomers will recognize, rise beautifully to it.
  • London Free Press - Hollywood turns to guest stars to appear on sitcoms -
Paris Hilton (pre-incarceration) marked time on Veronica Mars, The O.C. and George Lopez; American Idol runnerup Clay Aiken appeared on Scrubs, and late last summer Britney's ex, Kevin Federline, made some chat room waves of his own after it was announced he landed a recurring role on One Tree Hill.

Tidbits 4/8

What a wonderful photo - I've never seen this before... check out the full sized HQ at Flickr.
  • Cute story about her insurance agent from the CB's edlwis:
I called my insurance agent to ask him if I needed to take the insurance the rental car agencies try to sell. I told him I would be renting a car when I go to Florida in August. He asked me why I was going to Florida. I said, "You're either going to laugh or say 'huh', but I'm going to Florida to see Clay Aiken at three concerts." He said, "Oooooh, my wife is the biggest Clay fan! I completely understand! She's just crazy about the guy!" Well, that just made my day and I "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee'd" big time! I just LOVE when this sort of thing happens!!
  • Contra Costa Times is entitled to their opinions, but I think Clay's far from being "off the map":
Thank God it doesn't always work. In six seasons, one could argue that only a handful of "Idol" singers -- Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and, to a certain extent, Clay Aiken -- have gotten even close to real stardom. Aiken is off the map and would be smart to head to Broadway.
  • Myrtle Beach Sun News - uh... not sure what to make of this:
"If I was invisible, then I could just watch you in your room," from "Invisible" by Clay Aiken. Creepiest lyrics since The Police promised to monitor "every breath you take." Tip: If Clay spies on you, just stomp your foot at him. He'll cry like a little girl.
  • 570 News / Canadian Press wire - Neil Sedaka celebrating 50 years in the industry...
Among his celebrity friends, Sedaka counts Bette Midler, Neil Diamond, Keely Smith and Elton John - and he's keeping his eye on "American Idol," on which he was a guest judge in 2003.

That season, Sedaka was excited about Clay Aiken, who performed Sedaka's song, "Solitaire," on the show. This season, he's praising the talents of contestant Melinda Doolittle.

Tidbits 4/6

  • Orlando Sentinel - nice write up for Clay's Orlando concert:
Need a fix to stop the achin' for Aiken?

    Clay Aiken
    May 24, 2006

Clay Aiken has been off the hard stuff for months now.

"I feel like (American) Idol is a drug of some kind," our fresh-faced junkie told People this week. He then goes on to say that he hasn't watched this season at all.

Good for you, Clay. If you can kick it, there's hope for us all. We're going to lock ourselves in a room right now, huddle up in the fetal position, and renounce all Idol pleasures.

Except for your Aug. 19 concert at Hard Rock Live. That's OK, right? It will be more like a support group.

Oh, who are we kidding? We wish we knew how to quit you, Clay.

Tickets are $58-$75, on sale at noon today.

    Details: 407-351-5483.
  • YouTube - There is a Michelle Kwan montage at YouTube that is to Clay's version of the song "Broken Wings". Check it out!
  • Autism Key - There is a video at this site about autism awareness and what parents with children with autism deal with every day. It is the first video on the left.
  • Foxes on Idol - Interesting article by Bruce Barker called "The Idol Analyst: Sanjaya and the Angles" mentions Clay, "Clay Aiken became the talk of America not just because he had a great voice, but because nobody could believe that a voice that good could come out of such an odd looking young man. In short, Clay took the Jim Nabors path and it worked for him."
  • Charlotte Observer - the making of an Idol - "UNC Charlotte grad Clay Aiken's prominent ears were camouflaged with a new hairstyle by "American Idol" hairstylist Dean Banowetz, who is often credited with the singer's phoenix-like rise from the ashes of the second season."
  • NY Post - no Chocolates for Clay Aiken this Easter - "Come Sunday, who will nibble those yummy little chocolate-covered bunnies? Not Clay Aiken, who's allergic to chocolate. Or Henry Winkler, who says chocolate 'causes a sore on my lip.'"
  • E! News - random Clay mention in this article about TV and NBC's Scrubs (Clay appeared on the show in Feb. 2005) - "Tubers, my name is Korbi Ghosh, and I am really into Clay Aiken. And yes, I mean that in a weirdo sorta way."
  • Quick Online Tips - article about the Lycos50 ...
The second tier of the Lycos 50 Elite lists items that have been on the Lycos 50 for at least 50 straight weeks at one time. This includes Clay Aiken, Pokemon, Hilary Duff, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Naruto, P*ker, Carmen Electra and Jessica Alba.
  • Addison Road on the state of the music industry -
[Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target] sell[s] to your aunt, who hasn’t bought a CD in years, but will pick up a Clay Aiken CD in the checkout line while she buys 9 pairs of summer shorts for her kids.
  • Daily Colonial - random mention.
  • Houston Press - another mention from the Houston Press... getting bored now!

  • Nothing here today.
