Tidbits 12/19

ABC News presents American Idol: Where Are They Now?

American Idols: Where Are They Now?
Everyone knows Clay Aiken can sing. Now he's ready to show he can act. Aiken will join the Broadway cast of "Monty Python's Spamalot" in January 2008, playing one of the leads Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning musical. Aiken told reporters that he's psyched to take the spotlight and work with the comedic geniuses behind the "Monty Python" TV series. "Let's not lie, the chance to work with legendary creative minds like Mike Nichols and Eric Idle is, on its own, a reason to jump at this opportunity," he said.
  • Kansas City Star has republished the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star Tribune's interview with Clay from last week ... a great read!
    Q. What's the best Christmas present you've ever received?

    A. I don't know. I can tell you the funniest one. I must have been 11 or 12, my mother gave me a do-it-yourself model of the space shuttle or something like that. I said "Thank you" and put it in the closet. The next year for Christmas, I opened up this model of the spaceship and I said, "Mom you gave me the same thing last year." And she said, "No, no, no. I gave you that last year; you never touched it, you never opened it." So she'd gone in my closet and wrapped it again.
  • Windsor Star/CanWest News Service article about Christmas songs... about "Silver Bells" -
When it was introduced, Silver Bells was unusual because it celebrated a Christmas scene in the city, rather than in the countryside. It has since been performed by many singers, including Andy Williams, Pat Boone, Neil Diamond and, more recently, by Clay Aiken of American Idol fame.
  • 411Mania - article about music produer Phil Ramone. He co-produced Clay's Merry Christmas With Love in 2004 -
Phil Ramone is a name you might not be familiar with, but you certainly know the albums he has produced over the years. The list of who he has worked with rolls off like a roll-call of honor: [...] Barry Manilow, Clay Aiken[...]. The man is even credited with recording the infamous Marilyn Monroe version of “Happy Birthday” for Fohn F. Kennedy.
  • Charleston Post Courier -
It's a typical Tuesday evening in the Lowcountry as people gather at the Charleston Tennis Center in West Ashley. Some are playing in leagues, others taking lessons, and then there is the special group of athletes playing on court No. 6.

From a distance it looks like a children's tennis clinic is under way. But, these are not ordinary tennis players. These players have Down syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders and other sensory- challenged conditions.

    [...]

Stever sits on a nearby bench watching. She said she takes the girls to the movies on Saturdays, or to read books at Barnes & Noble. They even went to see The Cheetah Girls and Clay Aiken in concert, Stever said.
  • Seattle Weekly on Christmas TV specials -
Television holiday specials are often the weapon of choice, from the Bay City Rollers in 1975 to the somniferous Donny and Marie Osmond in 1978 (launching a thousand "gives new meaning to the term 'white Christmas'" quips) to the ever-milquetoast Clay Aiken in 2004
