A former cocktail waitress, Clarkson has enjoyed a level of fame that has eluded her "Idol" contemporaries, though many of them have flourished in smaller niches. Clay Aiken struck oil among the adult-contemporary set, while Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood just debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart with her country disc, "Some Hearts." Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino and Josh Gracin all have garnered a few hits, too.
