Clay Surprises Fans With WRAL Inteview

Clay was interviewed by Raleigh TV station WRAL's Lynda Loveland today. RALEIGH FANS - THIS WILL AIR DURING THE 10 PM NEWS TONIGHT. (Clay predicted in a blog this morning that we'd have the clip all over the internet by 10:31 PM - LOL.) Looks like WRAL was a little jealous of WTVD, a competitor ABC station which flew their helicopter over Clay's Raleigh house last week!

WRAL.com has video of Clay showing off his Christmas tree decorated with ornaments from his fans. ClackUnlimited.com has the full preview clip, and even dail-uppers can download this small 3.0 MB file.

Here are some recaps from the various boards:

  • My friend just called and said they did a promo for the piece about the upcoming house tour. It was Lynda Loveland and Clay outside his house. She's saying something about Clay deciding to give us an "Inside look at his house, including..." and he puts his hand over her mouth! BWAH! Then he says, "We'll save that for later."

  • I just saw a preview of our boyfriend on the news. He was in his beautiful kitchen. Had on a blue hoodie and it showed Raleigh or Durham, not sure which, eating! Clay was talking about how his kitchen has to be kept in perfect order which is odd because he doesn't cook!

The hoodie he's wearing is one of his Clay Aiken hoodies!! And it's been in the 70's the past couple of days in NC. He must be mighty cold natured. Forgot to mention on the preview they also showed a shot of his formal living room and it has the same furniture in it that was in his LA home.

Tidbits 11/29

Don't miss LBFCA's cute "Happy Birthday, Clay" post.

Well, Clay...it’s your birthday again. And I wasn’t sure what to get you for a present.

You used to be so easy. To shop for, I mean.

For your 26th, I lined everyone up to give you a most Broadly gift. You were hesitant at first, but you soon realized it was for your own good. ::snicker::

For your 27th, you gave lots of hints, then asked for "something a little different". The Broads obliged, and were still feelin’ it in the morning.

But this year, I’m stumped. No hints. No signals. No "presenting".
  • Tomorrow is Clay's birthday! The usual birthday mentions in the AP wire today --"Singer Clay Aiken is 28."
  • Clay holds steady on the Lycos50, coming in at #12 for the second straight week.
  • Christmas tour mentions (can you believe it'll start this FRIDAY?):
  • Appleton Post Crescent - AI makes 'defective' pop stars? (what?)
It started as a cute little talent show featuring really untalented people, but “American Idol” has somehow become a pop music hit factory. Unfortunately, most of the product has been defective: Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, and Fantasia are artists only under the broadest possible definition.
  • DVD Verdict- as they say it- better late than never. DVD Verdict's review of Aladdin which featured Clay performing "Proud of Your Boy" was posted recently.
  • Yahoo Canada press release - searches for Clay Aiken rose 343% last week following 'Kellygate'
  • Dixie Sun- Invisible a stalker song? "“What you doing tonight? I wish I could be a fly on your wall.” The owner of that peculiar passage is none other than former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken. You feel where I'm coming from now?"
  • Your daily dose of Kellygate:

Clay Blogged Again!

Clay blogged again today for the second time this week! Make sure to go check it out if you can.

The post is an update to what his "gift" that he blogged about last time. Apparently, there is going to be something on the news tonight in Raleigh, but Clay is sure that it will get out over the internet in no time.

You've just gotta love this man...You've just gotta! =)

FOX News "Expert" Analyzes Kellygate

Since when was the entire "Kellygate" thing so newsworthy that it could fit into FOX News primetime lineup?

Anyhow, The O'Reilly Factor hired a "body language expert" (uh... yeah...) to "analyze" Kelly Ripa's reaction to Clay putting his hand over her mouth.

claysthe1 recaps: "Just saw O'Rielly. The little body language expert analyzed Ripacrit's response to the hand. Someone needs to let her know she shouldn't make assumptions. She said KR was probably more upset since she didn't know him before he appeared on the show. Someone give her a fact checker. Clay has been on the show with Ripacrit several times before."

Tidbits 11/28

All Is Well, Clay's 4-track Christmas EP is now available at your local Wal-Mart. If you don't have your hands on a copy yet - run!! This is a limited release CD and will sell out. According to our sources, Canadian Wal-Marts will receive their copies of AIW sometime in December.

  • Inside Bay Area- pop music is always unpredictable -- "Then there's Clay Aiken and the whole "American Idol" phenomenon. And the fact that Lukas Rossi was picked to lead Rock Star Supernova will surely puzzle future generations."
  • Monsters & Critics - article about Christmas tours mentions Clay's symphonic Christmas tour which kicks off this Friday. -- CDD'S COMPLETE TOUR COVERAGE IS AVAILABLE HERE.
  • If you want a nice visual presentation of all of Clay's tour dates, check out this cool webpage at Claymatized.
  • Foxes on Idol- ATDW covers idea "didn't work".
  • MSNBC/Access Hollywood - Hollywood & the price of fame for Clay Aiken --
No one could’ve guessed the firestorm that would have erupted following Clay Aiken’s appearance on Regis and Kelly.

It’s amazing what one hand can do. But you can be sure that Clay would like to have that moment back. Especially when you consider that deep down, he’s a quite country boy who doesn’t always want the attention he gets.

  • USA Today Idol blog- don't expect Grammy nods for Clay.
  • Trapper Juan (non-Clay) comments on the power of the Clay nation:
This past Sunday, I made a generally pointless post about the Clay Aiken/Kelly Ripa nontroversy, fully expecting it to not get any feedback whatsoever. I was real, real wrong. In the hours following the posting, this blog received 1695 hits, along with a slew of Claymate comments you can feel free to read below. Unprecedented! Holy shit.

I had no idea Clay fans were so, for a lack of a better term, gangsta. (I really wish I wasn't lacking a better term at this juncture, but so it goes.) Although I think Ripa (or "Ripacrite," as y'all have taken to calling her) reacted completely inappropriately, I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of the dude's music. I'm just not, you know? His charity work garners obvious kudos, and he seems like a stand-up dude, but his songs? Meh. No offense. Regardless, I find the Claynation's ability to mobilize and work off a shared agenda seriously impressive. And here I thought Michael Jackson fans were so serious. If Clay ever shot for public office or something, I'm pretty sure he'd win based on Claymate poll turnout alone. Hypothetically speaking, the dude could run on a purely sociopathic "death to Sharp-Pei puppies in sneakers" platform, and I'm pretty sure he'd still oust any pathetic incumbent foolhardy enough to avoid concession before the primary.

Regis & Kelly MDYK Will Air: The Insider

The Insider showed a clip of Clay's performing "Mary, Did You Know" on Live with Regis & Kelly during today's episode. After the fallout between Clay and Kelly, there was uncertainty about whether the performance would actually make it to TV.

The Insider has confirmed, however, that the performance will be airing sometime next month. Kelly Ripa reportedly thanked Clay privately after Clay sent her a bouquet of flowers.

As The Insider's Lara Spencer said it: "Christmas is all about forgive & forget."

Clay Tells Access Hollywood: New Material Coming For Next Album

UPDATE: Videos are up, again thanks to the CB's extraordinary gerwhisp:
Clay revealed to Access Hollywood last night that he would like to make another album of entirely new material in the future. He didn't use the word "soon" and we're hoping that's a good thing! You can watch their entire interview with Clay on their website (select the video "ACCESS EXTENDED: Clay Aiken".

Speaking of infotainment shows, most of them including The Insider and Entertainment Tonight will do a follow-up to the entire "Kellygate scandal" tonight.

... and as if we aren't tired of this... already:
  • The Insider asks - "Have tensions between KELLY RIPA and crooner CLAY AIKEN finally been resolved? Tonight, we have the latest on their high-profile misunderstanding!"
  • Access Hollywood spoke with Regis last night and aired a piece on Clay appearing on Days of our Lives. You can read their online article here (there are also 2 videos you can watch!).
No one could've guessed the firestorm that would have erupted following Clay Aiken's appearance on Regis and Kelly.

It's amazing what one hand can do. But you can be sure that Clay would like to have that moment back. Especially when you consider that deep down, he'squite a country boy who doesn't always want the attention he gets.

And as Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson found out when she caught up with Clay as he was taping his guest appearance on the set of "Days of Our Lives," sometimes he wishes it would all go away.

"Would you trade everything that you have today for your anonymity?" Shaun asked Clay.

"It depends on what day you ask me," Aiken admitted. "I'm kind of happy today. I like what I'm doing. But there are days when it gets very nerve-wrecking."

Safe to say, the past week would qualify as one big long bad day for Clay after the controversy Kelly Ripa's caustic comment caused, which then led to Rosie O'Donnell inadvertently outing him referring to Ripa's actions as "homophobic."

Ironically, a week before all the brouhaha started, Shaun spoke with an introspective Clay on the downfalls of fame as Clay was filming a cameo for the December 26 episode of "Days of Our Lives."

"It's all kind of frightening and scary and there are days when I think 'Will anybody ever not know who I am?'" Clay revealed.

Clay also admitted that soap operas have never really been his thing. So how did they convince him to do a "Days" cameo?
  • Web Pro News
  • Google says Kelly Ripa and Clay were on their most searched terms last week following the entire affair. They say this in a press release issued today:
This week’s boldfacers include former Seinfeldian [michael richards] (a.k.a. [kramer]), who lashed out at a heckler with racist remarks, and later publicly apologized for them, and TV star [kelly ripa], who found herself in a flap with talk show host Rosie O’Donnell after Ripa’s on-air exchange with singer Clay Aiken, who was subbing for her co-host Regis Philbin.

Clay Talks About the New Look, Days of Our Lives, and Las Vegas in Access Hollywood Interview

ClaytonClaniac at The Clayboard has given us an exerpt from an Access Hollywood interview. Below is a part of that interview:

"........Shaun Robinson and I spent some time with him here at NBC just last week. I have only met him a handful of times but before this latest incident, he seemed much more grounded and real than ever before to me. It was like the North Carolina boy had returned to his roots. He was laughing, he was joking. He wasn't surrounded by a million handlers. He was just Clay Aiken from North Carolina not Clay Aiken of American Idol fame.

He was even able to joke with Shaun about his dark hair and Beatles-like look that had viewers gasping at the American Idol finale, "I didn't recognize myself. At first, it took me 2 or 3 weeks to actually get comfortable watching it on TV and thinking who is that dude, oh it's me."

Gone is the dark hair and dark suits now it's back to a much more laid back look. Clay with light brown hair, dressed in an argyle sweater and khaki pants, was on the lot at NBC to film a cameo appearance playing himself on "Days of our Lives."

Though not a soap opera fan himself, Clay brought along his best friend who is a huge "DOOL" fan. She was in heaven according to him.

I expect we won't be seeing a lot of Clay for a while. So, fans may have to get their fill when this episode airs December 26th. For now, I suggest he just throw himself into his work. His latest album, "A Thousand Different Ways", which featured mostly covers of famous love songs didn't exactly burn up the charts. Apparently, he wanted to do an album with all new material but the record label pushed for something else, "That was the intention at the beginning of making the second album. In the process Clive (Davis) came up with a different idea. It's my intention hopefully, to do an album of all [new]material next. We'll kind of see what the record label has in store for us."

Shaun brought up that maybe he should follow in the footsteps of Barry Manilow, Celine Dion and Elton John and head to Vegas. According to Clay it certainly is not out of the question, "It's a possibility. I mean I think that it's kind of ,Vegas has had it's rebirth. I was saying to someone the other day it's gotten very hip recently. I would have no problem if someone in Vegas wants to hire me to do a show. You call us up.""

"Our Friend Mikayla" Book Now Available For Purchase From The Bubel Aiken Foundation

We have heard a lot about the book, "Our Friend Mikayla", written and illustrated by a third grade class about their friend with disabilities and how they learned she was no different than any other student in their classroom. The book is now available for purchase from The Bubel Aiken Foundation at a cost of $14.95. BAF gives us the following information about the book:

Written and illustrated by third-grade students, Our Friend Mikayla, is an honest portrayal of the children’s first reactions to Mikayla, their barriers to acceptance and finally the true friendship they formed with her. At her parents’ request, Mikayla was included in a regular classroom. Not only did Mikayla’s classmates accept her, but they also began to see her as “just like them.” Their relationship with Mikayla and their journey to acceptance inspired the book. Our Friend Mikayla became the class project, mainly because Mikayla’s friends felt they had an important message to share with other children. Their goal was to teach other kids that, “From Mikayla, we’ve learned that people with disabilities aren’t really different. It doesn’t matter if your friend is in a wheelchair. Their disabilities don’t mean you cannot be friends. Having a friend with a disability is cool.”
You might want to consider buying this book for your school or local library or to give as a gift this Christmas.

Music Blog Names Clay Aiken #1 Idol

Here's some nice comments about Clay from a music blog called Steel Kaleidoscopes. In their top 10 American Idols countdown, Clay comes in #1.

1. Clay Aiken
The best singer to ever stand in front of Randy, Paula and Simon, period. Aiken's unique voice is unmatched. Invited back as a wildcard, Aiken wowed America with his version of Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and never faltered thereafter. Week after week he towered above the competition, but somehow lost to Studdard in the Season 2 finale. He was one of three contestants never to appear in the bottom 3 (Clarkson and Underwood are the others). What makes Aiken No. 1 is that he's an original. Simply put, there are no comparisons.
Way to go!

Tidbits 11/27

  • Skatyh at The Clayboard - She just got her new December 4 issue of OK! Magazine (the one with Tom and Katie on the front) and she said there is a picture of Clay and Tyra seated cheek to cheek on the set. The caption reads: "L.A., Nov. 22: A precious moment on the Tyra Banks Show: American Idol contestant CLAY AIKEN and self professed "Clay-frican American" TYRA BANKS cuddle up."
  • Post Tribune - very nice pre-concert article for Clay's Merrillville, IN show. A good chunk of it is devoted to Clay's fans and the BAF.
Clay Aiken is, after all, no hellion himself.

    The 2003 runner-up on Fox's "American Idol" is mommy-friendly.

Michigan City's Jeanoma Babcock said she warmed up to "the fact that he sang music the whole family could listen to."

It was a big selling point for the 63-year-old grandmother.

"We don't have to worry about the lyrics and that sort of thing," Babcock explained. "That was very appealing to me because I hadn't been buying any music, because I was just kind of put off by the hip-hop and all of the newer music."

While it's true that Babcock thought Aiken was a crooner with "perfect pitch," it was his charitable side that steered her toward complete devotion.

"That just kind of sealed the deal," she recently said. "I'm a member of a fan club called the Aiken Breakin' Broads."

The Internet allows communication with club members nationwide: "We have a message board that we chat back and forth on every day."

Babcock's husband, Dennis, amusingly concedes that his wife is "really a groupie" when it comes to the 27-year-old North Carolina native.

"She just thinks he's a good, clean American guy that kids can look up to," he said. "I mean, she goes all over to see his concerts."
  • The Tyra Banks Show has posted some viewer comments about last Thursday's HOT Clay Aiken episode where the two flirted non-stop. One viewer writes:
Thank you Tyra for being you!! So down to earth!! You were great with Clay. Should've made that kiss last a little longer though. we were all living vicariously through you! I wish you all the sucess and good things that life has to offer. You certainly deserve it.
  • More Kelly/Clay stuff... enough already! We get it!
  • CB Music - Taylor Hicks article - "The guy might be able to sing, but on Broadway—not for pop music (same can be said for Clay Aiken)." (???)
  • Wikipedia now has a page up for All Is Well. The EP will be released at Wal-Mart tomorrow. Here is the tracklisting and track lengths, as posted on Wikipedia:
"All Is Well" produced by: John Fields - 3:59
"Christmas Waltz" produced by: Walter Afanasieff - 2:59
"O Come O Come Emmanuel" produced by: John Fields - 3:38
"My Grown-Up Christmas List" produced by: John Fields - 4:57

  • On the Boardwalk- here's an interesting letter to the editor about the whole "Kellygate" thing the Raleigh News & Observer published. Kudos to Bonnie!
Clay Aiken makes an honest mistake, Kelly Ripa overreacts, Rosie O'Donnell over plays, Ripa protests, Rosie protects, Ripa hypocritical, Rosie's a friend, Clay comes out smelling like a rose.

    The end.

    Bonnie McIntyre
  • Southern Girl has some hawt new photos of Clay on the set of DOOL. These photos are courtesy the CH's mee2u. THEY MAY NOT BE ALTERED, CROPPED OR OTHERWISE CHANGED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. THEY MAY NOT BE POSTED ONTO THE OFFICIAL FANCLUB.

People Magazine Asking, "Do You Like Clay's Hair Long or Short"?

People Magazine's "Off The Rack" section is asking readers to answer their question, "Do You Like Clay's Hair Long or Short"? The article says,

"Forget the hand-over-mouth scandal! We want to talk about Clay Aiken's hair! He may have ditched the darker color, but he is still experimenting with his hairstyle. In fact, since the last time we talked about it, it doesn't look like the singer has cut his hair at all! At the lighting of the UNICEF Snowflake this weekend in NYC, Aiken emerged with a shoulder-grazing style that is a stark contrast to the super-short crop that he had on American Idol. We definitely like him better back to his natural color, but we can't decide how we feel about this longer look. Tell us: Do you like Clay's hair long or short? Should he cut his hair?"
First, I must say that it is quite refreshing for a magazine to be asking a question about Clay that has no "scandal value" whatsoever! And I enjoyed reading some of the comments. Just to peak your interest a "hair", here are a few of those comments:
Trisha Nov 27, 2006 6:47:43 AM
I can't decide if I like it either. Sometimes I do and other times, not so much. But no matter what he does to his hair, I will continue to be a Claymate!

Krysti Nov 27, 2006 7:00:05 AM
I prefer his hair short! He is such a great singer and seems like a nice guy.

Mary Nov 27, 2006 7:59:54 AM
Love Clay's new long-haired look. Clay can wear all kinds of hair styles and look great, but this is one of my favorites. This look shows off his gorgeous eyes. I think he should keep his hair long.

Brenda Nov 27, 2006 8:06:29 AM
I like it better long, however it makes no difference to me. He is a very warm and loving human-being and a great singer. There are a lot of people out there that could pick up some manners from his lead.

Donna Nov 27, 2006 8:07:25 AM
I think the new hair style and color look great on him. He looks alot younger and more appealing.

Jennifer Nov 27, 2006 8:13:21 AM
I think Clay looks better with short hair. Maybe he's going for a rocker look. Go back to short hair, Clay. Long hair does nothing for you!!

Violet Nov 27, 2006 9:01:44 AM
Short, short, short!!! Long is so not flattering on him! His confidence will return with the short hair!

Anne Nov 27, 2006 10:16:52 AM
I think he should cut his hair. I liked it much better that way, but he's still cute either way! Go Clay!

Marilyn Barnstead Nov 27, 2006 10:53:03 AM
I really like his hair like it is. I think he actually looks a little more mature with his hair a little longer.

Lola Nov 27, 2006 10:56:35 AM
I liked the "in between" look....I don't like it too short or too long. Cut it a little, Clay!!

CT Nov 27, 2006 11:25:35 AM
I love Clay's new long hair style! It suits the man that he is. He is more natural and comfortable with this new style. Wait till he sings a beautiful love song and runs his fingers through his hair or performing a Christmas song in a tuxedo with that hair!! OMG!! I've seen The Hair at the recent Virgin Megastore CD signing in Los Angeles and believe you me, Clay is one handsome guy!!

Melissa Nov 27, 2006 11:33:43 AM
Please CUT that hair. He is so cute and you can see his face better when that hair is short!

Jean Nov 27, 2006 11:38:53 AM
My favorite Clay hair was the way he wore it for the Juke Box Tour. But he is a wonderful, caring young man with an amazing voice, and he can wear his hair any way he wants to. I admire him so much- for his singing, and for his loving heart.
Well, as you can see, we all have an opinion on Clay's hair. I agree with the last comment by Jean. No matter how he chooses to wear his hair, its the class act person that Clay is that really stands out and is what's important in the long run!

Clay Mention on Lifetime's "Karaoke Superstars"

Clay Singing "I Will Carry You" on Oprah

Olsonpl at The Clayboard found an unexpected Clay mention on Lifetime TV's new show "Karaoke Superstars". She says,

I was channel-surfing last night (Saturday) and stumbled upon a new show on Lifetime (I think?) called Karaoke Superstars. It's not a reality show but rather a docudrama following singers competing in this competition.

Anyway, one by one, each singer was introduced together with the song they were going to sing. The next thing I know, I hear the announcer introducing the next contestant saying he would be singing "I Will Carry You" by Clay Aiken. My heart jumped at the mere mention of Clay's name! I LOVE that he's everywhere!
By the way, the guy came in second place!

  • Even more Kelly Ripa/Clay stuff... should we stop now?
    • Toronto Star - stupid moves - "Rosie O'Donnell accusing Kelly Ripa of homophobia for telling Clay Aiken not to put his hand on her mouth. I mean, he is not even gay in the first place."... also this Star article about what's in the tabloids this week.
    • Contra Costa Times
    • NY Post - "And who knows what Kelly Ripa meant about not knowing where Clay Aiken's hand had been. Maybe it's time celebs went back to just looking good and keeping their mouths shut."

Clay Aiken attempts to get on with the American Music Awards, but Tori Spelling insists on telling another story about life on "90210."

Aiken was set to tell America what he really thinks about Kelly Ripa's "germaphobia," but luckily Spelling was there to stop him.

Ever famous for her discretion, Spelling shows Aiken that this isn't the time or the place for deeply personal revelations, no matter how obvious they may seem.
