Tidbits 1/14

  • We've got a rash of American Idol related articles. The sixth installment of AI begins on Tuesday on FOX.
    • Green Bay Press-Gazette -
"Granted, plenty of people devote their lives to contestants that they've come to know and love. But on 'Idol,' and Clay Aiken is the best example of this, there's a response there, a level of engagement, that can't be rivaled. It almost borders on obsession."
    • Charlotte Observer -
While winners like Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and Kelly Clarkson have gone on to solid recording careers, even also-rans have succeeded. Clay Aiken is among the best-selling of the former "Idols," and Jennifer Hudson, a finalist on the show in Season 3, landed a key supporting role in "Dreamgirls," considered an early Oscar favorite.
    • Canoe.ca - I certainly hope this changes in this year... Let's hope Clay's got some good new material to work with for the third album!
Fantasia, Reuben, Clay Aiken -- all still in the news, not for taking over the charts or constant radio play but for things such as weight loss and putting their hands over Kelly Ripa's mouth.
    • SFGate.com -Keeping up with your favorite 'idols'.
Clay Aiken (second place) The enormously popular North Carolina singer, who many thought was robbed of first place by a voting snafu, saw his debut CD, "Measure of a Man," sell near 3 million. His tours and CD sales are second only to those of Kelly Clarkson among "Idol" alumni. His "inspirational memoir" landed him on the New York Times best-seller list. He continues to be dogged by questions about his sexuality and caused a ripple last year when he placed his hand over the mouth of TV host Kelly Ripa.
  • Chronicle Herald (Canada) - article about a talent contest - "Like American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken, Millett was a wild card entrant to the finals of the Halifax Laugh Off at the Halifax Yuk Yuk’s club in December."
  • Metropolis Technology press release about their technology being used at last year's American Music Awards. Clay presented an award with actress Tori Spelling. (very small Clay tidbit)
  • Kalamazoo Gazette - Kathy Griffin.

  • Carolina on My Mind - learn about some interesting musical terms Clay admits even he can't understand... (fun post!)
